Two cats sit with their backs to you on this Kutani yunomi, one white and one brown, among blue blossoms and yellow butterflies on a cream panel. The grey speckled rim is drawn into four soft lobes rather than a true circle.

Made by Iroe Yū (色絵 遊) in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan, for its Hidamari series. The decoration is overglaze colour, and the red seal on the foot is the workshop's own mark. The handleless cup suits sencha, hojicha or genmaicha, and arrives in a paper box.

Also in the Hidamari series: rabbit yunomi · cat yunomi pair.
