Sazanka camellias are drawn by hand in fine blue outline around this small Arita ware porcelain wind chime, with tiny openings cut into the flowers so light and air pass through. A paper tanzaku, the wind-catching strip, hangs from the cord below and moves with the breeze to ring the chime.

In Japan, sazanka (Camellia sasanqua) flowers from late autumn into winter, giving this furin a motif associated with the cooler months.

Care instructions

Hang in a sheltered position with room to swing clear of walls and window frames. Bring indoors before rain or strong wind.
