A pair of quail resting among autumn grasses — painted in the manner of Arita's celebrated Kakiemon tradition (柿右衛門写し, Kakiemon-utsushi). Sparse, hand-painted brushwork in iron red, turquoise green, blue, and yellow sits against a milky-white porcelain ground, with the motif repeated across the saucer and a footed cup that lifts it all like a small pedestal.

The Kakiemon idiom — asymmetric bird-and-grass painting framed by generous white space — is one of Arita porcelain's most famous styles, and the quail-in-autumn-grasses scene is among its classic subjects. Each cup is painted by hand, so every quail wears slightly different feathers.

Microwave and dishwasher use are approved by the maker. To keep the hand-painted surface vivid for years, we still suggest gentle hand-washing when convenient.

One honest note from the maker: the outer base is left unglazed by necessity of the firing process, so slight darkening may appear there over time — a normal trait of this ware.

Because each piece is hand-painted, slight differences in brushwork, glaze tone, and pattern placement are part of its individual character.

Returns / damage support

Because many of our items are handmade, fragile, and shipped internationally from Japan, we do not accept returns or exchanges for change of mind, incorrect size expectations, or personal preference unless otherwise stated on the product page.
