Tea for two, painted in plum blossoms. This Kutani ware tea set pairs a 400 ml teapot with two yunomi cups — one wrapped in turquoise green (aoume, "green plum"), one in iron red (akaume, "red plum") — each blossom reserved in white and finished with delicate red line-work by hand. The set's Japanese name, Ikoi-zoroe (憩い揃), means "a set for relaxation."

In Japan the plum blossom is the first flower of the year, blooming while snow still falls — a quiet symbol of renewal and perseverance, rendered here in Kutani's confident overglaze brushwork.
