A hand-painted Kutani-yaki maneki-neko — a beckoning "lucky cat" — in a soft pink finish, Kutani ware from Ishikawa. The left paw is raised, a gold bell hangs at a blue-and-red collar, and the body is decorated in Kutani's five-color palette with raised-relief (moriage) flowers — blue and orange chrysanthemums and little blossoms over fine white dots. Its compact size suits a shelf, entryway, counter, or workspace, at home or in a shop.
The meaning
The maneki-neko is a traditional Japanese charm that "beckons" good fortune. A raised left paw is said to invite people, guests, and good relationships — and pink is the color of love and affection — so this cat is a warm choice for friendships, partners, a new home, or a little self-kindness on your own shelf.
- Hand-painted Kutani porcelain, size 3.3-gō
