Kakiemon-style cup and saucer with plum and bird

This 190 ml Arita/Hasami porcelain cup and saucer is decorated in a Kakiemon-style ume kachō composition. A small bird rests among flowering plum branches, painted in polychrome overglaze enamel against a warm white ground.

The cup stands on a raised foot and has a compact C-shaped handle. Its milk-white field leaves generous space around the branch, allowing the asymmetrical painted scene to carry across both cup and saucer without a dense border.
