A calico cat, a celebration fish, and a raised paw of welcome. This Kutani maneki neko by the Chōhō Kiln (長峰) hugs a red tai (sea bream) — Japan's festival fish, whose name puns on medetai, "auspicious" — its scales and fins drawn in raised gold moriage lines you can feel under a fingertip.
The tri-color calico (mike) cat is the classic bringer of luck; the raised right paw beckons good fortune in. Around them: hand-painted sakura blossoms with gold centers, a green collar with a gold charm, red inner ears, and fine whisker brushwork. Underneath, the kiln signs each piece in red — 九谷 長峰 — beside an impressed seal. Every cat is decorated individually, so patterns and colors vary slightly from piece to piece.

THE MAKER
Chōhō Kiln
長峰 · Ishikawa
Chōhō (長峰, also read Nagamine) is a modern Kutani-yaki kiln in Ishikawa Prefecture known for the Hanazono (花園 flower-garden) pattern and the signature ryōte (両手 both-paws-up) maneki neko series. Distinctive technique: mori-e (盛り絵 raised-line slip) accents over overglaze enamel. Not a coin bank — hollow base only, no money slot.
Independent Kutani kiln; tradition designated 1975
