Bring quiet, sculptural color into your home with this Kutani yūsai porcelain vase — a blue colored-glaze that flows into soft yellow and green tones. Tall and slender, it reads as much as an art object as a flower vase.

Unlike classic painted Kutani, yūsai (釉彩) works color into the glaze itself rather than over it, giving this piece a contemporary, tonal surface. Hold a single stem for ikebana, or let it stand on its own on a shelf, console, or entryway.

• Made by Hakuho Kiln / Kutani-yaki in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan, curated by ZenKiln

Pairs well with our Hidamari Kutani matcha chawan and other Kutani ware.

THE MAKER

Hakuhō Kiln

博峰窯 · Ishikawa

Hakuhō Kiln (博峰窯) is a modern Kutani-yaki kiln in Ishikawa Prefecture specialising in Yoshidaya-fū (吉田屋風) revival — the aote (青手) palette of yellow, turquoise, purple, and iron-black with NO iron-red, a defining Yoshidaya constraint. Body is earthenware (陶器) not porcelain, because the Yoshidaya tradition needs a porous tōki body to hold the heavy aote palette. HS code 6912.00 not 6911.10.

Independent Kutani kiln; tradition designated 1975. Hakuhō ≠ historic 1820s–60s Yoshidaya kiln — revival lineage only.
