Red Fuji and a crane stand out against the glossy black body of this Kutani porcelain lucky cat by Chōhō Kiln. Raised mori decoration traces the scrolling patterns, with gold-coloured accents around the collar.

The right paw is raised, a gesture traditionally associated with financial good fortune. A red bib bears 福 (fuku, “good fortune”). The hand-painted decoration continues around the figure, with small differences in linework and colour from piece to piece.
