Our studio
Living with objects.
ZenKiln is a ceramics and craft studio in Yoyogi, Tokyo.
We select contemporary ceramics and craft with the small moments of daily life in mind.
A cup you reach for each morning. A bowl at a shared meal. A vase that gives a few stems a place in the room. Familiar objects can become part of how a home feels.
How we choose
Choosing the collection
Choosing for everyday life.
A cup’s rim, a teapot’s handle, and a bowl’s weight matter as much as their decoration. We look at how a piece feels, how it works, and what draws us back to it, from a plain glaze to a richly decorated surface.
Our product pages bring together what we know about the maker, region and materials, with practical details on size, care and packaging.
A family drawing
A tea bowl, drawn at six.
Before ZenKiln had a logo, we asked our daughter, then six years old, to draw a Japanese tea bowl.
She drew a round bowl with a camellia on its side and a butterfly above the rim. We kept those three elements and refined her drawing into a single continuous line.
Behind the product pages
From our Tokyo studio.
We photograph and film the pieces ourselves so you can see them more closely. Alongside the collection, we share details about materials, makers, and care to help you choose.
Before an order leaves our Yoyogi studio, we inspect and pack it by hand, with cushioning for fragile international transit. Orders ship from Japan with tracking.
Questions about size, care or packaging? Write to us before you order. We’ll help you understand the piece.
