Collection: Yakushi Kiln (Yakushigama)

Yakushigama (薬師窯) is the ceramic brand of Chugai Touen (中外陶園), a pottery workshop founded August 13, 1952 in Seto City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Yakushigama specialises in hand-painted Maneki Neko, lucky figurines, and zodiac ceramics, using Seto novelty (Setomono) techniques inherited from the Meiji era. Yakushi cats are a staple of Japanese homes, shops, and gifts for prosperity, longevity, and good fortune.

The brand takes its name from a Yakushi Nyorai (薬師如来, the Buddha of Medicine) shrine that once stood on Chugai Touen's grounds during the Edo period — the image is now enshrined at Hosenji Temple in Seto.
