Hechimon Kirara tall Shigaraki vase

This 25.5 cm vase by Marui Seitō is finished in shiro-geshō white slip over a coarse Shigaraki clay body. Brown and pale flecks remain visible through the Kirara surface, giving the tall asymmetrical form a granular rather than uniform white finish.

One side of the mouth breaks into an irregular yabure-guchi edge. Below it, a narrow band of kakitsuke drag-line incisions carries selective gold pigment down the body.

Maker: Marui Seitō (丸伊製陶), Hechimon line
Ware: Shigaraki-yaki ceramic, Shiga Prefecture, Japan
Pattern: Shiro-geshō Kirara
Surface: white slip, gold pigment, and incised drag lines
Dimensions: approximately 16 cm wide × 11.5 cm deep × 25.5 cm high

Arrangement

The narrow, asymmetric opening is suited to one tall branch or a restrained dry arrangement. Water-tightness is not specified in the available product data; use a waterproof inner vessel for fresh flowers.
