Diamond-pattern hexagon demitasse

This 100 ml Arita/Hasami porcelain cup and saucer is hand-painted in the Some-nishiki Hishi-mon pattern. A pale cobalt diamond grid establishes the structure, then red, green, yellow, black, and gold overglaze details fill alternating cells.

The six-sided cup gives the lattice a clear architectural rhythm, while the round saucer opens the same pattern into a broader field. A single cobalt signature character appears on the foot of both pieces, and the saucer carries a Bijutsu Arita-yaki certification sticker.

Ware: Arita/Hasami porcelain, Japan
Pattern: Some-nishiki Hishi-mon (染錦菱紋)
Decoration: cobalt underglaze with hand-painted polychrome and gold overglaze accents
Cup: approximately 6.5 cm diameter × 5.5 cm high; 10 cm including handle
Saucer: approximately 12 cm diameter × 3 cm high

For espresso and small servings

The demitasse size is suited to espresso, short coffee, or a small serving of tea. The set comes from an Arita/Hasami workshop; the gold decoration and hand-painted enamels favour gentle handling.

Care instructions

Hand-wash only with mild soap and lukewarm water; air-dry with soft cotton. The gold (kinsai) enamel and polychrome overglaze enamels will abrade in a dishwasher cycle. No microwave — the gold kinsai accents are specifically incompatible with microwave use.

The light iron-spot speckle through the porcelain body is intentional and characteristic of Arita-Hasami border-kiln production — it is part of the surface, not a defect.
