Tokukō Arita Imari cup and saucer
This 150 ml cup and saucer by Tokukō is worked in the kinrande (金襴手, “gold brocade”) tradition. A vermilion aka-e ground carries repeated chrysanthemum rosettes, linked by gold karakusa vines. The eight-lobed rim is finished with petal-shaped cartouches, a fine white-on-gold shippō dot pattern, and a narrow gold line.
Maker: Tokukō (徳幸), Saga Prefecture, Japan
Ware: Arita-yaki / Hasami-yaki porcelain
Capacity: 150 ml
Included: one cup, one saucer, and Tokukō’s navy presentation box
Chrysanthemum and gold-brocade decoration
The kikka-mon chrysanthemum motif circles both cup and saucer. Chrysanthemums have a long association with the Japanese imperial house and are also used as seasonal emblems of autumn and longevity. The scrolling karakusa vine gives the separate rosettes a continuous rhythm.
Kinrande describes porcelain enriched with gold over an enamelled ground. Here, the gold sits over red aka-e, with white raised details and a scalloped profile that recalls older Imari tableware.
Capacity and use
The 150 ml cup suits espresso, lungo, macchiato, or a small serving of black tea. The saucer leaves room for wagashi or another small sweet.
Presentation box and matching cup
The set arrives in Tokukō’s branded navy keshōbako (presentation box) with its maker materials. A matching blue-ground Tokukō cup and saucer uses the same chrysanthemum composition over cobalt.
