A calico cat, a celebration fish, and a raised paw of welcome. This Kutani maneki neko by the Chōhō Kiln (長峰) hugs a red tai (sea bream), Japan's festival fish, whose name puns on "medetai," auspicious; its scales and fins carry raised gold moriage lines you can feel under a fingertip.

The tri-color calico (mike) coat is the traditional form of the lucky cat, commonly described as broadly auspicious rather than pointing to one specific kind of fortune. In common maneki neko symbolism, the raised right paw is the side associated with inviting money. Around the cat the piece layers sakura blossoms with gold centers, a green collar with a gold charm, and red inner ears.
Every cat is decorated individually, so patterns and color placement vary slightly from piece to piece, and yours will not be identical to the photo.
At 11 cm tall it sits comfortably on an entryway shelf, a desk, or a shop counter, and makes a warm gift for a housewarming, a new venture, or a cat lover.
CARE
- Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth; avoid soaking and abrasives (the gold and raised moriage are delicate).
- Lift the figure by the body or base, not the raised paw, and avoid pressure on the raised decoration.

THE MAKER
Chōhō Kiln
長峰 · Ishikawa
Chōhō (長峰, also read Nagamine) is a modern Kutani-yaki kiln in Ishikawa Prefecture known for the Hanazono (花園 flower-garden) pattern and the signature ryōte (両手 both-paws-up) maneki neko series. Distinctive technique: mori-e (盛り絵 raised-line slip) accents over overglaze enamel. Not a coin bank — hollow base only, no money slot.
Independent Kutani kiln; tradition designated 1975
