A small hand-built flower vase from Hechimon — the art line of Marui Seitō in Shigaraki, one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns. Its organic, slightly off-balance body is wrapped in combed (kushime) lines, with a soft cream "shironeri" glaze that pools to warm amber in the grooves and a low, saddle-shaped mouth. "Hechimon" is old Shigaraki dialect for "something out of the ordinary," and the Kairō ("corridor") series takes its flowing forms from the quiet, dynamic movement of living plants — so every piece is its own.

Good for

A single stem or a small seasonal bunch, dried flowers or a sprig of greenery — or left empty as a quiet objet on a shelf, windowsill, entryway, or tea corner. Lovely for ikebana practice and minimalist, wabi-sabi interiors.

Use & care

  • Holds water for fresh flowers (the vase is treated to resist seepage). As a precaution, stand it on a coaster or mat — condensation or a little seepage can occur, and the unglazed foot may be slightly rough.
  • Do NOT add cut-flower food or detergent to the water — surfactants can interfere with the water-resistant treatment.
  • Rinse and dry gently; hand wash only. Each piece is hand-made, so form, glaze tone, and combing vary — that individuality is the point.
