Iroe Yū Hidamari cat mug

Two cats sit back-to-back on this 230 ml Kutani stoneware mug, surrounded by small wildflowers, forget-me-nots, green leaves, and two butterflies. One cat is left as a pale silhouette; the other is painted in dark sienna. The scene belongs to Iroe Yū’s Hidamari, or “sunlit spot,” series.

The upper body has a speckled white kohiki-style glaze, while the lower body and handle shift to a granular grey-brown surface. This division of glaze and clay gives the small, rounded form a more tactile character than a uniformly finished mug. A red square workshop stamp appears on the foot.
