Ninpou Mino katakuchi and sake cup set

This two-piece Mino-yaki set pairs a 300 ml katakuchi pourer with a matching 50 ml sake cup. Both are made in white porcelain and finished with a fired lustre that opens into a fine, bubble-like pattern, giving the red or white surface its champagne reference.

  • Set: One katakuchi pourer and one matching sake cup
  • Maker: Ninpou (仁峰)
  • Material: Porcelain with fired lustre decoration
  • Colours: Red or White
  • Katakuchi: Approximately 9.5 × 8 × 12 cm; 300 ml; 170 g
  • Sake cup: Approximately 5.5 cm diameter × 5.5 cm high; 50 ml; 70 g
  • Microwave: Safe for gentle warming
  • Ware: Mino-yaki
  • Origin: Gifu Prefecture, Japan

Use and surface variation

The katakuchi is sized for pouring cold sake into the accompanying cup; the set may also be used for gently warmed sake. The lustre pattern develops during a second firing and varies with kiln position and temperature. Ninpou describes these differences as utsuwa no hyōjō—“the vessel’s expression”—rather than defects.
